NY EMT-BASIC CERTIFICATION COURSE OVERVIEW

AMR Medical Services has a unique opportunity for goal-oriented individuals to achieve NY Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification training. Are you ready to begin a rewarding career in Emergency Medical Service?
We will provide the NY EMT Basic Certification Course to qualifying individuals at no cost. Upon successful completion of the program and obtaining their NY certification, the candidate will be offered an opportunity to apply for a position with AMR. City of Buffalo residents are encouraged to apply.

We don't have any classes on the schedule at this time. Check back soon as we hold training sessions periodically throughout the year.
- Business casual attire and shoes with non-slip soles are required – no elevated heels. You will be participating in a lifting skill assessment, written math and English comprehension test and initial interview.
- You MUST provide proof of HS graduation or GED, possess a valid NY Driver’s License, and have completed the course application at the time of the Open Enrollment Session.
EMT-BASIC Position Qualifications
To qualify for the NY EMT course the candidate must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have the ability to communicate verbally; via telephone and radio equipment
- Have ability to lift, carry, and balance up to 125 pounds (250 with assistance)
- Have the ability to sit stand and crawl
- Have the ability to interpret written, oral and diagnostic form instructions
- Have the ability to use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations
- Have the ability to be unaffected by loud noises and flashing lights
- Have the ability to function efficiently throughout an entire work shift without interruption
- Have the ability to read English language manuals and road maps
- Have the ability to interview patient, family members and bystanders
- Have the ability to document in writing all relevant information
- Have the ability to converse in English with co-workers and hospital staff as to status of patient
EMT-BASIC Course Objectives
At the conclusion of the course the EMT-Basic must demonstrate competency in:
- Patient assessment
- Trauma care
- Managing medical emergencies
- Utilizing Basic Life Support equipment
- Use of a semi-automatic defibrillator
- Airway management

- Hemorrhage control
- Fracture and spinal stabilization
- Managing environmental emergencies
- Emergency childbirth
- CPR

Upon completion of the course and after obtaining NY Certification, candidates will be eligible to apply for employment. Qualifying candidates for employment must possess a valid NY Driver’s License with a good driving history and successfully complete the pre-employment screening process, which consists of drug testing and background check of both criminal and motor vehicle operation histories.
